Laminate countertops have come a long way over the years. Today’s laminate countertops resemble everything from granite, quartz and marble to wood, brick and even leather. Because laminate holds up quite well and is far less expensive than other countertop surfaces, it has remained a viable countertop surface option for so long.

Whether you have a Formica countertop, a laminate design from Wilsonart or any other brand of laminate, here’s how to clean your laminate countertops.

You won’t believe these countertops are laminate.

How to Clean Laminate Countertops Without Streaks

The key to keeping laminate countertops clean is wiping them down regularly with mild materials, which Merry Maids notes results in less wear and tear.

For everyday cleaning, use a mild dishwashing liquid, warm water and a microfiber cloth. “Apply a mixture of dish soap and water to your counters using the cloth. As you wipe the counter, rinse your cloth in clean water. That way you’re actually cleaning, not just spreading dingy suds around. Afterwards, you can let the counter air dry or you can wipe away any remaining moisture with a fresh microfiber cloth,” Merry Maids says.

Follow these tips to selecting a laminate countertop.

How to Get Rid of Stains on Laminate Countertops

To fight stains, combine a tablespoon of baking soda with a couple tablespoons of water to make a paste. Merry Maids says to spread the paste over the stain and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then, wipe the laminate countertop with a damp microfiber cloth. However, don’t scrub, as it could damage the surface.

“If the stain still isn’t gone, you’ll need to check the manufacturer’s instructions to see what stain removal products they recommend.”
