What is the Most Popular Color for Garage Doors?

White is the most popular color for garage doors. Sarah Fisher, vice president of marketing and design at H.A. Fisher Homes told Fagan Door, a Rhode Island garage door company, that white helps balance out almost all home designs.

“Regardless of the elevation style, exterior finishes or details, white complements best and creates an overall crisp and uniform appearance that is pleasing to the eye,” Fisher said.

Should Garage Doors Be Painted the Same Color as Your House?

If you want your garage door to blend in with the rest of your home, paint it the same color. American Overhead Door, a company that specializes in garage doors, notes that if your home already has shutters, trim and lots of other features on its facade, it may be best to paint your garage door so that it fades into the background and doesn’t distract from the home’s other features.

What Color Should I Paint my Garage Door for a Tan House?

“It’s not only important to have a garage door that pairs with materials of your home exterior, it’s perhaps more important to consider your house’s siding color and other details when finding the right garage door color,” according to G & S Garage Doors, a Virginia-based garage door company. For tan-colored homes, whether stucco, stone or vinyl, red and brown garage doors are especially appealing. Looking for options? Here are a few reasons why you should opt for vinyl garage doors.

What Color Should I Use for a Brick House?

Since most brick is multi-colored, picking out a garage door color for a brick house can be tricky. American Overhead Door suggests focusing on one of the colors in the brick. “If you notice that one color seems prominent in the brick, such as tan or white flecks, you can use that color for your garage door,” the company also notes. “For the most part, a rich chocolate brown or deep bronze will pair well with brick. The same is true of a smoky gray (shown here) or buttercream hue.” Here are a few exterior brick paint color ideas to transform your home.

What Color Should You Use for a White House?

“The general rule is to either select a garage door the same color as the dominant color or choose white. A garage door the same color as your house will make the home look bigger and allow visitors to notice other aspects of your home. You don’t want your garage door to be the star of the show, but rather a feature of your home that adds to the overall harmony,” said a rep from Banko Overhead Doors, a garage door company in Florida.

What Color Should You Use for a Gray House?

“Like white, gray is a neutral, giving you plenty of wiggle room and flexibility when choosing color for your garage door,” according to American Overhead Door. The company suggests going high-contrast with either black or white if you want your garage door to stand out against the rest of your home’s exterior. You can also go with a rich color such as navy blue or burgundy.

What Color Should You Use for a Brown House?

When it comes to garage door paint ideas, if you have a brown house that has vinyl siding, brick or stone, or a dominant brown roof, try green paint. Even a light sage color would work. “Green garage doors are perfect for creating balance while adding a muted contrast to neutral homes,” notes Designing Idea, a home design website. “This garage door color works best with brown houses and is a foolproof option for monochromatic exterior palettes.”

Should I Paint My Garage Door Black?

A black garage door is a good option if you want it to pop against a white house, according to American Overhead Door. Black also works well for modern homes. However, if you’re not ready to commit to full-on black, try a dark gray. A trendy door color can do a lot to boost curb appeal. Confused whether to paint it or not? What About Stained Wood Garage Doors?

A natural wood garage door can add warmth and a sense of depth to the exterior of your home no matter what color, according to Clopay, a nationwide garage door company. “Wood doors provide strength and inherent insulating properties, but they do require regular maintenance to safeguard it from the elements. Depending on the exposure, a wood door should be repainted every one to two years. Stained doors will need a top coat applied just as often per the manufacturer’s recommendation.”

Wood garage doors can come in all shades, from light to dark, which makes it easy to find exactly the right color to work with your home’s exterior.
